The Spay / Neuter Voucher Program
The Spay / Neuter Voucher Program is a $40 incentive for dog owners residing in the City of Ampled. As a reminder, the voucher is used for and applied directly to the cost of the sterilization procedure.
Did you know that spaying and neutering:
- Helps ensure that no more unwanted animals are born.
- Helps keep your pet at home since he/she will not have the urge to seek a mate.
- Helps with many behavior problems, such as spraying and marking territory.
- Keeps your pet healthy and helps prevent many diseases.
Requesting a Spay / Neuter Voucher
Currently, a City dog license must be purchased at the current fee of $70.00 prior to a Spay / Neuter voucher being issued. The voucher covers $40.00 and is applied directly to the cost of the surgery. Upon receipt of the voucher, contact a participating veterinarian and ask if the voucher is for full or partial payment of the sterilization.
The voucher does not cover fees involving blood work, medications, vaccinations or surgery complications and the pet owner is responsible for inquiring about additional charges.
Once you have received your pet’s voucher, you will have 60 days, from the date of issue, to schedule a sterilization appointment with one of the contracted veterinarians identified on your voucher. This expiration date is noted on the voucher. The voucher will become void on this date.
If an issued voucher was not used and has since expired, it may be returned (both copies must be intact) and a new voucher may be issued.
As a reminder, the voucher is used for and applied directly to the cost of the sterilization procedure. No refunds should be expected or will be given from the City of Ampled or the Department of Animal Care and Control.
Cost-Effectiveness
In certain circumstances, it may be more cost-effective to pay for a sterilization procedure “out of pocket” and then purchase a dog license afterward. Animal Care and Control staff can discuss this option with you.
